Terms & Conditions

These Terms and Conditions apply to services and products supplied by Galeeco Automotive.

By requesting a quote, making a booking, authorising work, leaving a vehicle with us, purchasing products or accepting our services, you agree to these Terms. They apply to work carried out at our Mount Wellington and Mount Roskill workshops unless we agree otherwise in writing.

1. Our services

Galeeco provides automotive servicing, repairs, diagnostics, inspections, electrical work, air-conditioning work, engine and transmission work, panel and paint work, diesel and truck services, fleet maintenance, tuning and related products.

The work we perform will be described in the quote, job card, booking confirmation, invoice or other agreed work authorisation.

2. Bookings and quotes

A booking request is not confirmed until we accept it. Bookings are subject to workshop capacity, availability of technicians and parts, and vehicle condition.

Unless we clearly state otherwise:

  • quote is a fixed price for the stated scope of work, valid for 30 days from issue; and

  • an estimate is an informed indication of likely cost only. It is not a fixed price and may change if the scope, parts availability, vehicle condition or other relevant circumstances change.

Quotes and estimates may exclude work or parts that cannot reasonably be identified until inspection, diagnosis or disassembly. We will explain any material assumptions or exclusions where practicable.

3. Additional work and variations

We will seek your approval before carrying out additional chargeable work that is outside the agreed scope, except where immediate action is reasonably necessary to protect people, prevent significant vehicle damage, or comply with a legal or safety requirement and it is not practicable to contact you.

If further inspection reveals additional faults, worn components, safety issues or a different repair method, we may pause the work and provide a revised estimate or quote. You may approve, decline or limit the additional work.

If you decline recommended work, you remain responsible for the cost of authorised work already completed, including reasonable diagnostic, labour, parts, freight and disposal charges. We may require the vehicle to be collected if it is not safe, practical or lawful for us to continue work without the additional repair.

4. Your authority and responsibilities

You confirm that you are the vehicle owner or are authorised by the owner to instruct us, approve work and accept these Terms.

You must provide accurate vehicle, contact, insurance and billing information. Please tell us about any known faults, modifications, previous repairs, hazards, aftermarket systems, security devices, warning lights, or special operating requirements relevant to the work.

You are responsible for removing personal belongings and valuables from the vehicle before it is left with us. Please provide all keys, remotes, wheel-lock keys, service records and access codes reasonably required for the work.

5. Diagnostics, inspections and test drives

Automotive diagnosis may require testing, scanning, disassembly, road testing and the operation of the vehicle. By authorising work, you authorise Galeeco personnel to operate, move and road-test the vehicle where reasonably necessary to inspect, diagnose, repair or verify the work.

Diagnostic findings reflect the vehicle’s condition and the information available at the time of inspection. Some faults are intermittent, hidden or may only become apparent after further testing, disassembly or use. A diagnostic assessment does not guarantee that all faults will be identified unless we expressly agree otherwise in writing.

Recommendations, safety observations and maintenance advice are provided in good faith based on the inspection performed. They are not a substitute for a full manufacturer-scheduled service, WOF or COF inspection, pre-purchase inspection, or other specialist assessment unless that specific service has been agreed.

6. WOF, COF and regulatory work

Where we carry out WOF, COF or related repair work, the relevant inspection and certification requirements are determined by applicable law and regulatory standards.

A WOF or COF inspection records whether the vehicle met the applicable standard at the time of inspection. It is not a guarantee of the vehicle’s future reliability, condition or safety, and it does not replace regular maintenance.

If a vehicle fails an inspection, we will explain the identified issues and can provide a quote or estimate for authorised repairs. You may choose whether to have those repairs completed by Galeeco, subject to any applicable legal requirements.

7. Parts, products and replaced components

Unless otherwise agreed, we may use new, reconditioned, aftermarket or genuine parts that are suitable for the agreed repair. We will seek your approval before using second-hand parts.

Availability of parts and supplier lead times can affect repair timing and cost. If a specified part is unavailable, we may recommend a suitable alternative for your approval.

Unless you ask us in writing before the work is completed, replaced parts become Galeeco’s property for disposal, return to a supplier or warranty assessment. This does not affect any rights you may have under consumer law.

Galeeco does not provide any separate or additional warranty for parts or workmanship unless we expressly confirm one in writing. Any manufacturer or supplier warranty that applies to a part is provided on that manufacturer’s or supplier’s terms. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights or remedies that cannot legally be excluded, including rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.

8. Pricing, invoices and payment

Prices are in New Zealand dollars and include GST unless stated otherwise.

You must pay the invoice in full when the vehicle is ready for collection, unless we have agreed written credit terms with you. We may require a deposit or payment in advance for special-order parts, major work or work requiring substantial disassembly. We will tell you before requiring a deposit.

You are responsible for agreed charges, including authorised labour, parts, consumables, freight, subcontractor charges, diagnostic time, disposal fees and other agreed disbursements.

If an invoice remains unpaid after its due date, we may recover reasonable costs incurred in collecting the debt, to the extent permitted by law. We may also exercise any lawful right to retain the vehicle or goods until amounts properly due are paid.

9. Collection and storage

Please collect your vehicle promptly once we tell you it is ready.

If a vehicle is not collected within a reasonable time after notice, we may charge reasonable storage costs, provided we have notified you of the charge or the basis on which it is calculated. If a vehicle remains uncollected, we may take any further steps permitted by law after giving the required notice.

10. Vehicle care, risk and insurance

We will take reasonable care of your vehicle while it is in our custody. You should maintain appropriate insurance for the vehicle and its contents.

Galeeco is not responsible for loss of, or damage to, items left in the vehicle unless caused by our failure to take reasonable care or as otherwise required by law. We are not responsible for existing defects, concealed damage, ordinary wear and tear, or faults that arise independently of the authorised work.

11. Timeframes and delays

Any completion date or timeframe is an estimate unless we specifically agree otherwise in writing. We will use reasonable efforts to complete the work within the indicated timeframe, but delays may occur because of diagnosis, parts availability, supplier delays, vehicle condition, workload, weather, events outside our reasonable control or a need for your further approval.

We will keep you informed of material delays where practicable.

12. Warranties and consumer rights

Nothing in these Terms limits, excludes or modifies any rights or remedies you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986 or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Where you acquire goods or services from us for personal, domestic or household use, the Consumer Guarantees Act provides important guarantees, including that services will be carried out with reasonable care and skill.

To the extent permitted by law, where goods or services are acquired for business purposes, the parties may agree in writing to contract out of provisions of the Consumer Guarantees Act and Fair Trading Act where that is fair and reasonable.

Except where the law says otherwise, Galeeco is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of use, business interruption, or loss arising from a fault not caused by our work.

13. Temporary repairs and modifications

Where you request or approve a temporary, limited or emergency repair, we will explain the intended scope where practicable. A temporary repair may not resolve the underlying fault or prevent further failure. We recommend that any further work we identify be considered promptly.

For tuning, performance modifications or work affecting emissions-control, safety or vehicle systems, you are responsible for ensuring the vehicle remains lawful for use and complies with applicable regulatory, insurance, finance and warranty requirements. We will not carry out work that we reasonably believe is unlawful or unsafe.

14. Insurance, fleet and third-party work

If work is being paid for or managed by an insurer, fleet manager, finance provider, warranty provider or other third party, you remain responsible for any amount not approved or paid by that party, unless we agree otherwise in writing.

Any repair authorisation from an insurer or other third party is limited to the scope approved by that party. We may need your approval before carrying out work outside that scope.

15. Complaints

If you are unhappy with our work, invoice or service, please contact us as soon as possible so we can investigate and try to resolve the issue.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Services & Terms of Trade

What’s the difference between a quote and an estimate?

A quote is a fixed price for a stated scope of work, valid for 30 days from issue. An estimate is an informed indication of likely cost only — it isn’t a fixed price and may change if the scope, parts availability or vehicle condition changes.

Will Galeeco contact me before doing extra work?

Yes. We’ll seek your approval before carrying out chargeable work outside the agreed scope, except where immediate action is needed to protect people, prevent significant vehicle damage, or meet a legal or safety requirement and it isn’t practical to reach you first.

What happens if I decline recommended repairs?

You remain responsible for the cost of authorised work already completed, including reasonable diagnostic, labour, parts, freight and disposal charges. We may ask you to collect the vehicle if it isn’t safe, practical or lawful for us to continue without the additional repair.

What kind of parts does Galeeco use?

Unless otherwise agreed, we may use new, reconditioned, aftermarket or genuine parts suitable for the repair, and we’ll seek your approval before using second-hand parts. Replaced parts become Galeeco’s property for disposal, return or warranty assessment unless you ask us in writing beforehand.

Do I need to pay before collecting my vehicle?

Yes, invoices are due in full when the vehicle is ready for collection, unless we’ve agreed written credit terms. A deposit may be required in advance for special-order parts or major work, and we’ll tell you before requiring one.

What if my vehicle isn’t collected on time?

If a vehicle isn’t collected within a reasonable time after we notify you it’s ready, we may charge reasonable storage costs, provided we’ve told you about the charge or how it’s calculated.

Does Galeeco offer a warranty on repairs?

Galeeco doesn’t provide a separate or additional warranty for parts or workmanship unless we expressly confirm one in writing. Any manufacturer or supplier warranty on a part applies on that manufacturer’s or supplier’s own terms. This doesn’t affect any rights you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.

Are my consumer rights protected under these Terms?

Yes. Nothing in these Terms limits, excludes or modifies any rights you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986, or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded.

What if my repair is being paid for by an insurer or fleet manager?

You remain responsible for any amount not approved or paid by that party, unless we agree otherwise in writing. Any repair authorisation from an insurer or third party is limited to the scope they’ve approved, and we may need your approval before doing work outside that scope.

How do I make a complaint?

Contact us as soon as possible so we can investigate and try to resolve the issue — either our Mount Wellington workshop (022 472 4444, info@galeeco.co.nz) or Mount Roskill workshop (022 567 2249, mtroskill@galeeco.co.nz). This doesn’t stop you using any other dispute-resolution process or legal remedy available to you.
