Vehicle DPF Solutions in Auckland
You’ve got a DPF warning on the dash. Maybe the car’s gone into limp mode. Maybe it’s smoking more than it should. Maybe a dealership or workshop has already quoted you $2,000–$4,000 for a new filter. Before you hand over that money — stop. In a large proportion of cases, a blocked DPF doesn’t need replacing. It needs diagnosing properly, and then cleaning or regenerating with the right equipment.
At Galeeco Automotive, DPF work is something we do every single week at our Auckland workshops in Mt Wellington and Mt Roskill. We’ve seen every variation of this fault across dozens of makes and models. We always diagnose accurately before we recommend anything — and we’ll tell you honestly if the filter is genuinely beyond saving.
Why Your DPF Blocked in the First Place
A DPF is designed to clean itself automatically through a process called passive regeneration — when exhaust gases get hot enough (sustained highway driving at higher RPM), accumulated soot oxidises and burns off. Under ideal conditions, your DPF cleans itself without you ever knowing about it.
The problem is that Auckland driving conditions are almost perfectly designed to prevent this from happening. Short trips to school, stop-start commuting on the motorway, frequent idling, and suburban errands all keep exhaust temperatures below the threshold passive regen requires. The DPF loads with soot. It can’t self-clean. Eventually the engine management system detects the restriction, triggers a warning light, and may cut power to protect the engine. That’s limp mode.
Active regeneration — sometimes called forced regen — is a technician-initiated process that raises exhaust temperature to the required level using specialist diagnostic software, completing in a controlled workshop environment what your driving pattern never allows on the road. This is frequently all that’s needed to restore a partially blocked DPF to full function. For more severe cases, a professional deep-clean of the filter substrate follows.
Our DPF Services Services Include
DPF Cleaning & Regeneration
We use professional-grade cleaning systems to remove built-up soot and ash from your DPF. Our process restores your filter’s flow rate and efficiency — saving you money compared to costly DPF replacements.
DPF Diagnostics & Testing
Using state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, we quickly identify DPF-related issues such as pressure build-up, sensor faults, or failed regenerations — and recommend the best solution to get you back on the road.
DPF Replacement
If your filter is damaged beyond cleaning, we supply and fit high-quality OEM or aftermarket DPF units for all major makes and models.
DPF Software Solutions
For off-road or competition vehicles, we offer DPF delete software solutions that safely disable DPF functions within the ECU. Note: DPF deletes are for off-road or motorsport use only and may not comply with road emissions laws.

What Auckland Drivers Ask Us About DPFs
My car is in limp mode right now. Can I drive it to you?
Yes, generally, you can drive short distances in limp mode, but only at low speeds. Limp mode is designed to restrict your speed and power, not necessarily stop you completely. It’s usually fine for getting your vehicle to our Auckland workshop. However, if you notice unusually high engine temperatures, or heavy black or white smoke, it is safer to have the vehicle towed instead. Please call our DPF specialists on so we can help you determine the safest option based on your exact symptoms.
The DPF light came on and I went for a long motorway drive. It’s gone off — is it fixed?
Maybe, but a diagnostic check is essential to be sure. While a long motorway drive may have allowed for a successful passive regeneration to clear the filter for now, this doesn’t mean the problem is solved. If an underlying fault, like a stuck EGR valve, an injector issue, or a failed regeneration system, is still present, the filter will likely block again within weeks. Get a diagnostic scan done while the light is off. This allows us to confirm if the filter genuine cleared and identify what caused the initial blockage to prevent a recurrence.
How often should a DPF be cleaned or serviced?
There is no fixed cleaning interval; it depends entirely on vehicle usage. A vehicle primarily used for short trips around Auckland might need attention every 80,000–100,000km. In contrast, a vehicle that regularly does long motorway runs might never require intervention beyond normal passive regeneration. A warning light is always the first sign of trouble—do not wait until your vehicle is in limp mode before acting.
My DPF keeps blocking every few months. Why?
Repeat blockages almost always point to an unresolved underlying mechanical fault. The most common culprits include a faulty EGR valve that is passing too much soot into the filter, worn injectors causing incomplete combustion, or a regeneration system that is triggering but failing to complete its cycle. Our specialists will find and fix this root cause. Otherwise, you are essentially paying for DPF cleaning every few months indefinitely without solving the problem.
I’ve been quoted over $3,000 for a new DPF. Is that necessary?
Not necessarily—many DPFs quoted for replacement can actually be cleaned effectively. A replacement quote often stems from a dealership or parts-first repair approach. We prioritize giving you an honest diagnostic assessment first. If a professional cleaning and regeneration can restore your filter to normal function, that is what we will recommend, saving you a fraction of the replacement cost. If the filter is genuinely damaged beyond any recovery, we will provide you with the data that proves it.
Do you work on trucks and commercial vehicles as well as cars?
Yes, we provide expert DPF solutions for trucks and commercial vehicles as well. DPF systems on Hino, Isuzu, Fuso, Ford Transit, and other commercial vehicles constitute a significant part of our workload. Commercial DPF work often involves larger filters and more complex regeneration systems, which we are fully equipped and experienced to handle at both our Mt Wellington and Mt Roskill branches.

Our
Services
Oil changes are one of the most important services to keep your vehicle on the road. One of the quickest and easiest services you can do to care for your vehicle is an oil change.
At our local auto repair shop, we have performed countless oil changes for our valued customers. Regularly performed oil changes ensure that your engine is not being forced to work overtime through dirty oil in order to run.
Diagnosing the Issue
Every manufacturer has different recommendations as to how often and at what mileage you should have your oil change done. Check your owner’s manual for the exact mileage your car’s maker recommends and don’t allow that mileage to pass without getting it done.
Neglecting an oil change will result in causing stress and unnecessary wear on your engine, which could cause it to stop running well before its time. Replacing an entire engine is a very costly repair to make as a result of failing to regularly change the oil.
