Engine Warning Light On? Here’s What It Means

The engine warning light (also called the check engine light or MIL — Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is one of the most common reasons Auckland drivers come to us. It can indicate anything from a minor sensor fault to a serious mechanical or emissions issue.

Important: A solid engine warning light means “get it checked soon.” A flashing engine warning light means stop driving as soon as it is safe to do so — this typically indicates a misfire that can damage the catalytic converter.

Common causes of an engine warning light in NZ vehicles:

• Oxygen sensor failure — affects fuel economy and emissions
• EGR valve fault — common on diesel vehicles, especially Toyota, Ford and Mazda

Car Battery and Charging System Service Auckland
